High Court Probe Sought in Sabarimala Gold Theft Case, Says MP Hibi Eden

Kerala MP Hibi Eden has called for a High Court–monitored probe into the recent gold theft at Sabarimala temple, alleging a long-running political conspiracy and questioning the arrests of CPI(M) leaders. He urged transparent investigation and accountability to protect the shrine’s sanctity and public trust.

Kerala Congress MP Hibi Eden has urged the Kerala High Court to initiate an independent investigation into the recent gold theft reported at the Sabarimala shrine, calling the incident a disturbing reflection of what he described as a long-running conspiracy operating with political backing. The Sabarimala temple, one of India’s most revered pilgrimage destinations dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, attracts millions of devotees each year, and Eden said the sanctity of such a space makes the alleged theft all the more alarming.

According to Eden, the episode is not an isolated event but the latest link in a chain of irregularities that he claims have been unfolding in the state for years with the support of the government. His remarks followed the arrest of CPI(M) leaders Padmakumar and Vasu by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed on the directions of the Kerala High Court. The SIT, he said, uncovered “startling findings” while examining the circumstances surrounding the stolen gold.

Eden further questioned the silence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), suggesting the possibility of political understanding between the CPI(M) and the BJP in connection with the case. He argued that only a transparent, court-monitored probe would ensure accountability and deliver justice to the public, especially given the religious and cultural importance of the Sabarimala shrine.

He appealed to the High Court to ensure that the investigation moves forward without political interference and that all individuals involved—regardless of party affiliation—face appropriate legal consequences. Eden stressed that restoring public trust in the administration of the temple and its governing institutions is crucial for protecting a site held sacred not only by Hindus but by millions across India who value its centuries-old traditions.
